Talking Instagram, building an audience and finding the why with Kayte Ferris from Grow With Soul.
As anybody who has set up a new business right now knows social media is key to getting your message out there. I am on most of the social networks, Facebook Pinterest and of course Instagram. I focus on these three because they are mainly visual which is my favourite part of marketing and I enjoy posting pictures on them. Of them all, I spend the most time on Instagram. I really do love looking at people photo’s, which can be a blessing and a curse.
The whole point of Instagram is to share images and create social tribes, however, it can get overwhelming especially when you look at other peoples numbers and how many followers they have and how many likes and so on and so on. It sometimes leaves me feeling like I’m not doing it right. I’m not really a believer in fate but I started to listen to a podcast called Grow with Soul which I found really interesting and inspiring. Kayte is a marketing expert, coach and mentor. She helps creatives build authentic marketing strategies that help them grow with soul.
All of which was really interesting to me as somebody who is a little bit lost in the woods when it comes to marketing. So I was amazed when she messaged me to ask me to appear on his podcast and coaching episode on how to grow Instagram. But you need to get a reaction was oh my God no way I don’t think anybody wants to listen to me and public speaking is one of my least favourite things to do. But all of these thoughts with the exact reason why I said yes I really wanted to challenge myself and my idea that I can’t or just won’t do something new something I’ve never done before so I said yes.
The call with Kate was really relaxing just like chatting with a friend at home in the evening it’s really great to just talk to somebody who knows what they’re talking about when it comes to marketing and to get some tips and directions on where to go. It only took a couple of weeks for the episode to come out and when it came out it was so funny to see my name on my iTunes I wasn’t a Podcasts all the time so it kind of felt like I was part of the world for a brief moment.
I don’t know about you but listening to my invoice was quite painful I thought oh my God is that how I actually sound. When the podcast went live after a few days I started to get messages on Instagram and comments from other small business owners who are saying they found it really inspiring and were interested to hear about my journey I was playing away by this As being a solo prayer is going to feel like you’re the only one who feels like this it was really great to have all those comments. So what the podcast has told me is to say yes more and talk more openly and honestly about those little struggles new businesses come across.
