Throughout his career, Kiefer has interwoven themes of history, politics and landscape into his work.
"White Cube presents an exhibition by Anselm Kiefer featuring large-scale installation, sculpture and painting. Titled ‘Walhalla’, the exhibition referred to the mythical place in Norse mythology, a paradise for those slain in battle, as well as to the Walhalla neo-classical monument, built by Ludwig I King of Bavaria in 1842 to honour heroic figures in German history." ©WhiteCube.
This was one of my most favourite exhibitions in London of 2017.
It was completely immersive and really well brought together by White Cube. It was my first time in the gallery and it felt like entering another albeit bleak world. The claustrophobic entrance tunnel felt like the last resting place of an injured soldier. Through the space were discarded clothing and remnants of those who have died and passed over to Walhalla.Anselm Profile
