This handmade basket is made by Swazi Baskets who create beautifully soft but strong basketware from Swaziland. The baskets are woven using Lutindzi grass. The grass is picked from the ‘eTjebovu’ & ‘Mantenga’ areas on the slopes of the mountains in Swaziland, dried out and then made into ropes which is then coiled, weaved and/or sewn or finger-knitted to create their baskets.
As soon as I saw these baskets I had to bring them home. They are perfectly formed and represents the natural colours of the African bushland.
Swazi Basket is a family business, run by Nelton Mavinbela and his family. Nelton is from Swaziland and continuously travels between Cape Town and Swaziland to support his business.
