Yanomami Medium Basket

£ 25.00

Storage basket with lid handmade in Brazil.

The Yanomami is an indigenous group living in the northern part of the Amazon jungle near the border of Brazil and Venezuela, they are some of the last groups to be contacted by outsiders and it is believed that some of the groups still prefer to live with no contact with the outside world.

Indigenous Artefacts work with indigenous communities in the Amazon and in other areas of Brazil. Each basket is unique and completely handmade with designs and patterns embedded in each basket which are unique to each community. The baskets are made from natural fibre and each is produced in such a way that ensures its shape is kept.

Indigenous Artefacts continue to support local communities and ensure that they are paid fairly for their work. Each basket sold ensures that the tradition of basket making continues on.
