I came across Dami on Instagram and was delighted when she agreed to let We Are Nomads stock her beautiful candles and scents.
She started the brand to reflect the values of non-toxic, simple and clean beauty with mainly black women in mind. As a mother, it was important to Dami to create products with nature at the heart, with Shea butter as the base for her skincare products.
Each Ami product is beautifully balanced with blends of fragrances and thoughtfully handcrafted to bring warmth, comfort and quiet luxury into every area of your home
I was excited to ask Dami about her process and what inspires her to create her range of products and build a business that works for her and her family.
We have 2 candles coming to the store shortly, and I’m so excited to have them go live on the site. Read more about Dami and AMI London below.
What scent reminds you most of home?
Cocoa butter and vanilla. Growing up, home always smelled like comforting chocolate and vanilla and decades later, I find myself drawn to those same scents. There is something so calming and therapeutic about melting the AMI London shea and cocoa butter into my palm.
What’s one object in your home you couldn’t live without?
For me, it has to be the Crisp Fall Night AMI London Reed Diffuser. Wow. That scent completely transforms the atmosphere of a room. There is nothing I love more than walking into my home to the smell of a crisp fall night with notes of Bergamot, Musk and grapefruit. It has become part of the ritual that helps me reset.
Where do you feel most inspired?
Travel is where I find my greatest inspiration. South Korea, in particular, has had a huge influence on me. There’s a real appreciation for thoughtful design, craftsmanship and intentional living that resonates deeply with me. From beautifully curated cafes to minimalist interiors and skincare culture, I always leave feeling creatively recharged, and those experiences often inspire new ideas for AMI London.
What does a slow Sunday look like for you?
Most Sundays are a balance between family, faith and finding a moment to reset. The mornings are usually spent getting myself and my daughter ready for church, followed by time with her. Later in the day, I try to slow things down by lighting a candle, doing my skincare, enjoying good food, planning the week ahead and creating a calm home. For me, Sundays are less about rushing and more about resetting.
What’s always on your bedside table?
Hand cream and lip balm—these are a must—along with my Bible and a few other books.
Is there a craft, tradition or place that has influenced your work?
Absolutely. Growing up in a Nigerian household, shea butter was always part of everyday life. It wasn’t marketed as luxury, it was simply something that worked. That appreciation for simple, natural ingredients shaped the philosophy behind AMI London and is what I returned to when I needed to heal my skin.
When creating a new candle, do you begin with a memory, a place or a fragrance note?
Usually with a memory and a feeling. I always ask myself, “How do I want someone to feel when they light this?” Who or what do I want them to remember?” Once I know the emotion, whether it’s calm, comfort or clarity, the fragrance begins to take shape.
What are you reading, listening to or enjoying at the moment?
Since becoming a mum, finding uninterrupted time to read has become a little more challenging, so podcasts have taken their place. I gravitate towards conversations about entrepreneurship, faith and personal growth, anything that inspires intentional living and building a business with purpose. I always come away with a new perspective or an idea I can bring into both my life and ÀMI.
What brings you joy outside of work?
Spending quality time with my daughter, hosting friends, travelling, visiting beautiful cafés and creating a peaceful home. I genuinely believe home should be somewhere that helps you slow down and recharge.
What’s next for ÀMI?
We’re continuing to grow our collection with thoughtfully formulated skincare and home fragrances designed to encourage slower, more intentional moments.
At AMI, we’re a slow brand. We don’t believe in launching new products for the sake of it or following every trend. Instead, we release new scents every year or two, taking the time to create products we truly believe in.
We learned early on that there’s no need to fix AMI to become a lifestyle brand that people turn to not just for products, but for the rituals that help them care for themselves, their homes and the people they love.
