A working break in Lisbon.

My last-minute trip to Lisbon brought me back to life. After grey skies and rain in London for more days than I can handle, I needed some sun. One of the best things about being self-employed is the ability to work from anywhere. Working away was something I had dreamed about since leaving my permanent 9-5 design job.

The city is stunning, it felt like a mix of San Francisco and Cuba. It’s full of personality and beautifully tiled buildings. The city is like an artists colour palette, earthy colours of yellow, orange and pinks pop out from the sun-drenched white houses of Alfama, Because the city was built on 7 hills you are always getting amazing views up and down its streets.

My first impressions of Lisbon was that it was extremely hilly and probably the most colourful city I've been to. Almost everything is painted or tiled, my kind of city. Luckily it was sunny and warm every day I was there so the colours of the city were popping. I stayed in the LX Factory, a re-imagined factory district now housing restaurants shops, and bars.

As Lisbon is built on 7 hills the streets are steep, not as steep as San Francisco but steep, and slippy! Because of this, there are cute little funiculars running which take passengers from the bottom to top of a few streets. The funicular below is Bica funicular which begins at Rua S. Paulo.

This bridge might look familiar as it is the same architect as the Gold Gate bridge, this is the 25th April Bridge it was designed by the American Bridge Company. The 25th April Bridge is not very catchy, it was originally called the Salazar Bridge after the dictator of Portugal, António de Oliveira Salazar. After he was overthrown the bridge was renamed, can you guess which date the revolution took place in 1974?

Another perfectly peeling pink building.
