Description
Rich red handmade basket crafted by Swazi Baskets, who create beautifully soft yet strong basketware from Eswatini. They are woven using Lutindzi grass. The grass is harvested from the ‘Etebovu’ and ‘Mantenga’ areas on the slopes of the mountains in Eswatini, dried, and then made into ropes. These ropes are coiled, woven, and sewn or finger-knitted to create their baskets.
As soon as I saw these baskets, I had to bring them home. They are perfectly formed and represent the natural colours of the African bushland.
Swazi Basket is a family business run by Nelton Mavinbela and his family. Nelton is from Eswatini and continuously travels between Cape Town and Eswatini to support his business.
